Sleep better, Live better
Sleep is fundamental to our mental and physical wellbeing and poor sleep impacts on our everyday functioning and quality of life. It is a complex and active process with an increasing body of evidence on the importance of sleep and its impact on every system in the body from brain and gut health to weight management.
The amount of sleep needed to promote good mental and physical health varies from person to person, therefore insomnia also affects everyone differently.
1/3 of adults experience difficulties sleeping on a weekly basis and up to 10% meet the criteria for insomnia.
Acute (short term) difficulties with sleep are very common and are a normal response to a “stressor”. It can last for a few days or up to a couple of weeks. Sleep generally improves once the “stressor” is resolved. However, difficulties with sleep may persist for various reasons and begin to have an impact on our daily lives.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) Is an effective first line treatment for insomnia (NICE guidelines).
An individualised, structured, evidence-based programme. Involving practical strategies and techniques, including stimulus control, sleep rescheduling and training in relaxation techniques.
The skills learned during the sessions require practice. Most people see an improvement and experience better sleep.
